Standards
At the beginning of what has been an extremely successful start to the
school year with our “year 12” students achieving a record 90% 5A*-C GCSE grades, of which 47% also passed English
and Mathematics (our second best set of results ever) and where our new curriculum has started incredibly well, I
felt I should clarify a few points with regards to standards around the school.
Regular assemblies take place in school to clarify and reinforce the high standards
we expect of all students at school with regard to uniform, behaviour and other important rules. The information
presented at these assemblies is then shared with parents in a variety of forms such as newsletters, text messages
and full details of these standards are on the school website.
Why do we have these clear standards?
· So that we can clearly
focus on learning ·
So everyone knows what is expected of
them ·
To stop any
confusion/arguments ·
To prepare students for the future in a society full of expectations and rules
These standards and expectations have been agreed by the governing body and as such
as a member of Failsworth School it is expected that you fulfil all our expectations
There are opportunities for parents and student to offer their opinion on these
matters through direct contact or via, in the case of students, the student’s council and parents via the parent’s
voice meetings. For instance, last year after representations made by the student council we changed the rules
around the use of mobile phones in school.
I do hope and expect you will continue to support the position taken by the school
with regards to the application of consistent standards, but also appreciate the responses made to reasonable
request to review and amend these policies. The school will improve further if parents, students and staff work in
partnership together.
