Letter to Parents - 18 January 2012
Dear Parent / Carer
Firstly can I wish you all a Happy New Year, even though the holiday festivities
seem to already be in the distant past.
The school has already received some excellent news this term with our Year 11
students making good progress towards their targets with some encouraging Mathematics modular results. However they
still have a long way to go to meet their and our expectations and now is a key time for them to be revising and
working hard both at home and at school. Year 11 students should be doing a minimum of 2/3 hours additional work
outside the normal school day, which can include attending the many revision lessons offered by staff at the
school. We continue to enjoy sporting success with our Year 7 team through to the last 16 of the English Schools
Cup and we have just had our first radio broadcast aired on Oldham Community Radio. So lots of positive
news.
One of the main reasons for writing is to ask you to check on eligibility for free
school meal funding. This not only benefits individual families but, via the "Pupil Premium", money can ensure that
the school receives additional funds to support your son/daughter’s learning. Details of how to apply can be found
here.
There are a number of opportunities for parents to come into school this term to
check on your son/daughter’s progress and I hope you will join us at these meetings.
Details are on the school website.
Year 9 Parents Evening 26 January 4.30-7.30pm.
Year 8 Options Evening 2 February 4.30-7.30pm.
Year 8 Parents Evening 9 February 4.30-7.30pm.
Year 10 Parents Evening 23 February 4.30-7.30pm.
There are also some additional meetings for selected Year 11 students to review
their progress in English and Mathematics and parents required to attend these meetings will be contacted on an
individual basis.
Additionally we have our termly Parent Voice meeting on Monday 23 January at 7pm.
This is a voluntary meeting but all are welcome to attend to have the opportunity to listen to our successes and
ask any questions about the school.
We have had a good start to the term and with your continued support will continue
to make further progress.
Yours sincerely
John Meagher
