Year 8 students have been studying the Second World
War. As part of this study they interview relatives and members of their community who have memories of those
years. Their teachers have found it a real priviledge to read this work because we get to hear about some
fascinating stories and have learned a lot about the Failsworth community as a result. The aim of this section of
the website is to share some of these experiences with the Failsworth community and to invite contributions from
anyone who feels able to do so.
We believe that this project is particulary important because the current
generation of young people is likely to be the last to have the priviledge and the responsibilty of speaking to
those who actually experienced World War Two. By doing so they will be able to get a clearer idea of what total war
is like and will be better equipped to ensure that they and their children do all they can to avoid similar horrors
in their lifetime. It is also hoped that the project will give our young people the opportunity to pay their
respects and give thanks to those who sacrificed so much.
